GCE O/L Examination 2026: Online Applications Open for Private Candidates
Applications must be submitted online before midnight on 23 July 2026
Online applications for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination 2026 are being accepted from private candidates from 03 July 2026 to 23 July 2026. Applicants must carefully enter their selected subjects, examination town, medium and personal information.

👤 Eligible Applicants
The application process is intended for candidates applying as private candidates.
Applying as a private candidate while studying in a government school is strictly prohibited. Applications submitted in violation of this rule may be invalidated, and candidates may be prevented from sitting future examinations.
🌐 GCE O/L Exam 2026 Applications: How to Apply Online
Candidates can complete the application using either of the following official methods:
- Visit the Department of Examinations website and select the Exam Information Center under “Our Services”, or visit the direct online application portal.
- Enter your name, National Identity Card number and private telephone number.
- An OTP will be sent to your mobile phone by SMS. Use the OTP to log in.
- Read the instructions and watch the instructional video before proceeding.
- Enter your full name twice, exactly as it appears on your birth certificate.
- Select the correct examination town, subjects and medium.
- Pay the examination fee and download the completed application.

Payments can be made through a Post Office or using a credit or debit card.
Candidates paying through a Post Office must use the payment reference number generated by the system. The receipt must clearly mention “G.C.E. O/L Exam Fee 2026”.
📄 Important Application Instructions
- Each candidate must submit only one application.
- Submitting more than one application may result in rejection and legal action.
- After submitting the application, keep a printed copy of the downloaded PDF safely.
- The printed application should not be sent to the Department of Examinations.
- The examination fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another examination.
- The selected examination centre cannot be changed after submitting the application.
- Enter your permanent private address, not the address of a government school.
- Use a private mobile number that remains accessible to the candidate.
🪪 Identity Verification
Candidates must prove their identity at the examination hall by producing one of the following:
- National Identity Card
- Valid Passport
- Valid Driving Licence
The same identity document used for the application should be presented when appearing for the examination.
🎭 Subjects Requiring a Practical Test
Candidates applying for the following subjects under the Second Subject Category must appear for the relevant practical examination:
- Music – Oriental
- Music – Western
- Music – Carnatic
- Dancing – Indigenous
- Dancing – Bharatha
- Drama and Theatre – Sinhala
- Drama and Theatre – Tamil
- Drama and Theatre – English
Candidates who fail to complete the practical examination requirement will not receive results for the relevant subject, even if they sit the written examination.
