The Ministry of Education has officially released the Gazette for the First E.B. Examination for Piriven Teachers and Approved Private/Assisted Special School Teachers — to be conducted by the Department of Examinations in September 2026.

Exam questions are based on self-study modules published by the Ministry of Education on the official e-thaksalawa website:

Teaching Methodology
Digital Technology for Education
Law Related to Education
Paper I — Subject Knowledge I
Duration: 1 Hour
Paper II — Subject Knowledge II
Duration: 2 Hours
- 🗺️Exam will be held in designated town centers across all 25 districts (Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Badulla and others).
- 🔄If a requested town lacks sufficient applicants, candidates will be reassigned to their second preference or a nearby town. If overall numbers are low, the exam may be conducted exclusively in Colombo.
- 🌐Medium: Sinhala, Tamil or English. All papers must be answered in the same selected medium. Changing the medium after submission is not permitted.

After submitting, download and print two (2) physical copies of the application. Complete all handwritten portions and sign both copies.
Have your signature certified on both copies. Submit one copy to be included in your personal file along with the Zonal Director of Education’s certification. Retain the second copy for your reference.

The online application form must be completed in English only. Ensure two printed copies are completed, signed and certified. Changing the examination medium after submission is not permitted. Candidates must have their admission card signature certified by the Zonal Director of Education before appearing for the exam. Study all four modules from the official e-thaksalawa platform before the examination.
