The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to fill 8,547 vacancies in various Ministries, Provincial Councils, and Government Commissions, following recommendations made by the committee appointed for managing government staff recruitment.
The decision was made based on the recommendations presented by the committee chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister. The committee was tasked with reviewing the recruitment process, identifying requirements, setting priorities, and establishing time frames to streamline government employment.
At the committee meeting held on 2nd October 2025, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Hon. Prime Minister to proceed with recruitments for the identified vacancies in departments and institutions under the respective Ministries.
According to the approved list, the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs records the highest number of vacancies, totaling 5,198. It is followed by the Ministry of Buddhism, Religious, and Cultural Affairs with 1,261 vacancies, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with 355 vacancies.
Other notable ministries include:
- Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development – 310 vacancies
- Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation – 123 vacancies
- Ministry of Health and Mass Media – 120 vacancies
- Western Provincial Council – 414 vacancies
- Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Professional Education – 79 vacancies
The total approved recruitments span across 22 Ministries and Provincial Councils, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening public service efficiency by addressing long-standing staffing gaps.
