The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that applications are now open for special university admissions for blind and differently abled students who sat for the GCE A/L Examination 2024.
This special intake allows eligible candidates to apply for selected degree programmes for the Academic Year 2024/2025, apart from the regular university admission process.
Eligibility Requirements
According to the UGC, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Blind candidates must have faced the 2024 A/L Examination using the Braille system.
- Differently abled candidates must submit a valid medical certificate or disability diagnosis report.
- Students who did not apply under the normal intake are also eligible to apply.
- Candidates who previously applied under this special provision may reapply.
- For degree programmes requiring practical or aptitude tests, applicants must have passed the relevant tests conducted by respective universities.
Available Degree Programmes
The special admission scheme includes courses in:
- Arts (University of Sri Jayewardenepura)
- Management, ICT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems
- Music and Visual Arts (University of Visual & Performing Arts)
- Applied Sciences and ICT (University of Vavuniya)
Specific quotas have been allocated separately for blind and differently abled candidates.
