The Northern Province Public Service Commission has officially announced an open competitive examination to recruit qualified individuals for fifty-two (52) vacancies for the post of Technical Assistant (Agricultural Extension) Grade III under the Department of Agriculture, Northern Province.
The competitive examination is scheduled to be conducted around July 2026 by the Secretary of the Northern Province Public Service Commission. The deadline for submitting applications is June 12, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria
1. General & Residency Requirements
- Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka and possess excellent moral character alongside physical and mental fitness.
- Age Limit: Must be between 18 and 35 years of age as of the application closing date.
- Residency: Applicants must have been continuous permanent residents of the Northern Province for at least three (03) years within the immediate past six (06) years. Alternatively, the applicant or their parents must be natives of the Northern Province with a minimum of five (05) years of continuous permanent residency in the province. (Residency must be proven with a voter register extract during the interview) .
2. Educational Qualifications
- Must have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) examination in at least six (06) subjects in not more than two sittings, including Credit Passes in Mathematics, a Language/Literature (Tamil, Sinhalese, or English), and two other subjects.
- Candidates must have passed at least five (05) of these subjects in a single sitting.
3. Professional Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- A two-year Diploma in Agriculture from a government-recognized institution.
- A Technical Certificate representing the National Vocational Qualification Level 5 (NVQ Level 5) relevant to the post.
- Any qualification accepted by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) as equivalent to the above.
Selection Scheme & Examination Structure
Recruitment will be strictly merit-based, determined by the marks obtained in a written examination. Based on the merit order, 125% of the total number of vacancy requirements will be called for an interview. No marks will be awarded during the interview.
The written examination will consist of two papers, available in both Tamil and Sinhalese mediums:

Note on Subject Matter: The technical paper covers a comprehensive syllabus including Sri Lankan Agriculture Economic contribution, Climate Zones, Paddy & Vegetable Production, Soil Chemistry, Crop Protection, Irrigation, Farm Mechanization, Bee Keeping, Tissue Culture, Floriculture, Bio-Technology, and current Provincial/Central Government agricultural development policies.
