✅ General Eligibility Requirements
- Be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Be of excellent character and good health.
- Be willing to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.
- Be not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years of age as at the closing date of applications.
🎓 Educational Qualifications
G.C.E. O/L
Passed six subjects at one sitting, including Sinhala/Tamil/English Language, Science, Mathematics and one other subject, with the required credit passes in the relevant subjects.
G.C.E. A/L
Passed three subjects at one sitting in the Science, Mathematics or Technology stream.
Professional Qualifications — Technical Officers
- National Diploma in Technology awarded by the University of Moratuwa or Hardy Advanced Technological College, Ampara.
- National Diploma in Engineering awarded by NAITA.
- National Advanced Engineering Diploma awarded by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
- Technology Diploma awarded by the Open University of Sri Lanka.
- Successful completion of Part I of the Engineering Examination conducted by the Sri Lanka Engineering Institute.
- Relevant NVQ Level 6 qualification.
- Other technical qualifications recognized by the TVEC as equivalent, subject to the prescribed verification process.
Professional Qualifications — Draughtsman
- A relevant course completed at a TVEC-recognized technical college, leading to the National Technical Certificate.
- A one-year full-time Draftsmanship training course at a TVEC-recognized technical college.
- A relevant National Certificate course for Industrial Technicians at a TVEC-recognized technical college.
- Another technical qualification recognized by TVEC as equivalent to the prescribed qualifications.
Candidates who possess the required educational and one-year vocational qualifications for the Draughtsman Trainee Grade can be placed at the initial step of the Grade III salary scale after successfully completing the prescribed theoretical and practical training and passing the relevant examination.
📝 Competitive Examination
Eligible applicants will sit for a written competitive examination in Colombo. Only applicants whose details have been verified and who meet all prescribed qualifications will be called. Candidates must obtain at least 40% marks in each question paper to qualify for the interview. Shortlisting for interviews is by examination marks; final selection is on merit. The interview does not carry marks and is conducted to verify qualifications. The written examination will be conducted in Sinhala or Tamil.

The Intelligence Test covers comprehension, logical reasoning, decision-making, numerical/mathematical problem-solving and interpretation of tables, diagrams, illustrations and graphs. For Technical Officer (Civil), the technical paper covers measurements and planning, foundations, soil types, building materials, structures, finishes, quantity estimation, estimates, water supply and sewerage systems. For Technical Officer (Electrical), it covers electrical circuits in buildings, relevant regulations, planning and design, estimates and testing of electrical circuits.

Draughtsman (Trainee)
Monthly training allowance: Rs. 43,274/-
Appointments are permanent and pensionable, subject to Public Service Commission rules, the Establishments Code, Financial Regulations and other applicable government regulations.
💳 Examination Fee
A non-refundable examination fee of Rs. 1,500 is payable to Bank of Ceylon Account No. 7042710, Account Name: Department of Buildings, Battaramulla, at any Bank of Ceylon branch in Sri Lanka. The original payment slip must be attached to Item No. 12 of the application form.
