The Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance has strongly objected to the proposed 30-minute extension of school hours, which is set to be implemented under the new education reforms beginning in 2026.
Holding a press conference in Colombo today (24), the alliance announced that they will launch a one-day strike immediately upon the commencement of the new school term if the government fails to revise the proposed school timing amendments before November 7th.
The unions argue that the move to increase the school day by half an hour is unacceptable and have issued this ultimatum to the government regarding the proposed education reforms.
