The Sri Lanka Police has officially announced a recruitment drive for the position of Trainee Sub Inspector (Male) and is inviting applications from qualified male Sri Lankan citizens. The deadline for submitting applications is July 21, 2025.
Interested individuals must submit their applications prepared according to the specified format via registered post to the Director, Recruitment, Recruit Intake Division, No. 375, First Floor, Sri Sambuddhathva Jayanthi Mawatha, Colombo 06. The position applied for must be clearly marked on the top left corner of the envelope. The police department will not issue application forms, and late submissions will be rejected.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Applicants must meet a specific set of criteria to be considered for the role:
- Age Limit: Candidates must be between 18 and 26 years of age as of the application closing date. However, police officers already serving in the Sri Lanka Police are eligible to apply up to the age of 28.
- Marital Status: Applicants must be unmarried.
- Educational Requirements:
- A pass in six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination in one sitting, including at least four credit passes for subjects including the medium language and Mathematics.
- A pass in three subjects at the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in a single sitting (excluding the General Common Test).
- Physical Requirements:
- Minimum height of 5 feet 6 inches (167.64 cm).
- Minimum chest measurement of 32 inches (81.28 cm), unexpanded.
- General: All candidates must be Sri Lankan citizens of good character and be prepared to serve in any part of the island.
Salary and Benefits
Successful candidates will be entitled to a monthly salary scale of Rs. 55,410 – Rs. 91,630. In addition to the basic salary, officers will receive several allowances, including a cost of living allowance of Rs. 17,800 and other benefits. The position is permanent and pensionable, subject to government policy.
The Selection Process
The recruitment process involves multiple stages designed to select the most suitable candidates:
- Preliminary Test: Verifies the basic qualifications of applicants.
- Endurance Test: Candidates must pass a physical endurance test, which includes a 1000-meter run to be completed in under 5 minutes.
- Written Examination: Those who pass the initial tests will sit for a written exam covering comprehension, language skills, general knowledge, and an intelligence test.
- Structured Interview: Successful candidates from the written exam will be called for a structured interview.
- Background and Medical Checks: The final stage involves a thorough background check and a medical examination conducted by a board at the Police Hospital
