Sports Education Courses 2026 – NISS

The National Institute of Sports Science (NISS) has officially called for applications for a wide range of sports education and training courses for the year 2026. These programmes are designed to develop skilled sports coaches, physical fitness instructors, and sports professionals with nationally recognized qualifications.

The courses cover diploma, advanced diploma, and certificate-level programmes, catering to both experienced sports personnel and new entrants with a sports background. Most courses are conducted in Sinhala and English, with a strong focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Courses Offered for 2026

• Advanced Diploma Course in Sports Coaching – Netball (NVQ Level 06) – A one-year programme aimed at experienced netball coaches, combining theory, practical sessions, and a research project.
• Physical Fitness Instructor Training Course (NVQ Level 04 – A one-year weekend-based course designed to train qualified physical fitness instructors, with emphasis on health, exercise science, and non-communicable disease prevention.
• Certificate Course in Sports Masseur Training (NVQ Level 04) – A one-year course including theory, practical training, and internship, intended for sports coaches and professionals interested in sports massage therapy.
• Aerobics Instructor Training Course (NVQ Level 04) – A one-year programme focused on developing aerobics instructors capable of designing exercise programmes for fitness and recreation.
• Certificate Course in Sports Science – Level 01 – A six-week course aimed at enhancing scientific knowledge among sports coaches involved in swimming, athletics, and handball.
• Certificate Course in Coaching Skills Development – A three-month programme targeting experienced sports coaches to strengthen their coaching knowledge and professional competencies.
• Certificate Course in Sports Injury Management – A 102-hour course designed for sports coaches and physical fitness instructors, focusing on injury prevention and management.
• Certificate Course in Sports Psychology – A 102-hour weekend-based programme that provides essential knowledge in sports psychology for coaches, teachers, and sports personnel.
