The Ministry of Education has announced the Limited Competitive Examination for Recruitment to Grade III of the Sri Lanka Principals’ Service (SLPS) – 2025, as published in the Government Gazette dated 14 November 2025.
The examination is conducted to fill vacancies in government schools across all districts, covering Sinhala and Tamil mediums. Eligible officers of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service who meet the required academic qualifications, professional qualifications, and service experience may apply.

Candidates must submit applications via the Department of Examinations website under “Online Applications – Recruitment Exams.” - Application Period:
Opens: 17 November 2025 (9.00 AM)
Closes: 19 December 2025 (9.00 PM) - After submitting online, applicants must print, sign, and forward the hard copy through their institution head to the Department of Examinations before the closing date.
- Examination Date: March 2026 (Exact date to be announced)
- Medium: Sinhala / Tamil / English (Only one medium can be selected)
- Exam Centers: Major cities covering all 25 districts
- Exam Structure:
- Language Proficiency & Comprehension – 100 marks
- School Administration Case Study – 100 marks
- Aptitude & General Intelligence – 100 marks
Candidates must score at least 40% in each paper.
Qualifications Required
- Must be a confirmed officer of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service.
- Must possess relevant degree qualifications and professional teacher training (NIE Diploma, PGDE, Teaching Certificate, etc.).
- Required service period:
- Degree holders with training: 5 years
- Diploma holders: 6 years
- Age: Must be below 50 years as of 19 December 2025.
- Must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any region.
