The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced the Competitive Examination for Recruitment to Grade III of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) under the Merit Stream – 2026.

📖 Overview
According to Public Administration Circular No. 17/2026, applications are invited from qualified Sri Lankan citizens to fill 10 vacancies in Grade III of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. Recruitment is based on the combined performance of candidates in a written examination, seniority evaluation and structured interview, with appointments made according to merit order and the number of vacancies available.
✅ Who Can Apply?
- Officers holding a permanent and pensionable post in the Supra Class of the Management Service Officers’ Service or Provincial Management Service Officers’ Service; or
- Officers with at least 20 years of active and satisfactory service in the Management Service Officers’ Service or Provincial Management Service Officers’ Service, including 10 years in Grade I of the relevant service.
- Be 55 years of age or below.
- Be confirmed in the relevant service/post, with a satisfactory service record.
- Not have been subjected to disciplinary punishment during the entire period of service.
- Have earned all salary increments during the immediately preceding five years.
All qualifications must be fulfilled as at 10 August 2026. An applicant cannot sit this merit-based examination more than three times.

Candidates must sit for all three question papers and obtain at least 50 marks in each subject.
⚖️ Seniority Marks & Structured Interview
Seniority (Max 100 Marks)
Supra Class officers: 10 marks per year of qualifying service.
Class I officers (after 20 years’ service): 8 marks per qualifying year.
Structured Interview (Max 25 Marks)
Management Skills: 10 · Leadership Qualities: 5 · Communication Skills: 5 · Personality: 5
💰 Salary & Service Conditions
Grade III salary scale: Rs. 82,150 – 10×Rs. 2,400 – 8×Rs. 2,940 – 17×Rs. 3,900 – Rs. 195,970 (based on SL-1-2025), plus other allowances applicable to public officers. The post is permanent and pensionable, with a one-year probation period; the first efficiency bar examination must be passed within three years of appointment.

🌐 Examination Medium
The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Candidates must answer all question papers in one language medium, and the selected medium cannot be changed after application.
