Rajarata University of Sri Lanka has announced the commencement of applications for the Diploma in English (Extension) – Year 2025 (Intake 25), offered by the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE) under the Department of English Language Teaching, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities.
This program is open to individuals working in both public and private sectors, as well as school leavers who wish to enhance their English language skills. The one-year diploma will be available in both online and physical learning modes, with examinations conducted physically on campus.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill at least one of the following qualifications:
- Passed the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination or an equivalent qualification.
- Passed English at GCE O/L with credit (C) or above OR a pass (S) for General English at GCE A/L.
- Possession of a Basic or Professional English Certificate from a recognized university.
- Passed the National Certificate in English (NCE).
- Successfully completed the compulsory English examination conducted by a university for a degree program.
- A degree in English medium from a recognized university.
- Any other qualification deemed acceptable by the Board of Studies.
- An Advanced Certificate in English from a recognized university.
Additionally, applicants will need to sit for a written or oral selection test conducted by the university.
Course Structure & Duration
The one-year diploma (offered on Saturdays or Sundays, day-time or evening) includes interactive lessons and activities designed to improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, along with grammar proficiency. A literature component is also included in the curriculum.
Program Fees
The total fee for the diploma is Rs. 33,500/-, which can be paid in two installments (Rs. 21,000/- + Rs. 12,500/-).

Applications must include certified copies of educational certificates and a bank deposit slip for the Rs. 500.00 application processing fee, payable to Account No. 5022235 at the Bank of Ceylon, Mihintale Branch.
