The Sri Lankan government has officially declared the public and bank holidays for the year 2026, as per a notification published in The Gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (Extraordinary) today.
Key Highlights of the 2026 Holiday Schedule:
- January: Duruthu Full Moon Poya Day (3rd), Tamil Thai Pongal Day (15th).
- February: Navam Full Moon Poya Day (1st), Independence Day (4th), Maha Sivarathri Day (15th).
- March: Medin Full Moon Poya Day (2nd), Id-Ul-Fitre (21st).
- April: Bak Full Moon Poya Day (1st), Good Friday (3rd), Sinhala & Tamil New Year (13th–14th).
- May: Vesak Full Moon Poya Day (1st), May Day (1st), Id-Ul-Allah (28th), Adhi Poson Full Moon Poya Day (30th).
- June: Poson Full Moon Poya Day (29th).
- July: Esala Full Moon Poya Day (29th).
- August: Milad-Un-Nabi (26th), Nikini Full Moon Poya Day (27th).
- September: Binara Full Moon Poya Day (26th).
- October: Vap Full Moon Poya Day (25th).
- November: Deepawali Festival Day (8th), Il Full Moon Poya Day (24th).
- December: Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day (23rd), Christmas Day (25th).
All listed dates are designated as Public Holidays, with some also marked as Bank Holidays.
