A total of 474,147 candidates are set to sit for the GCE O/L Exam 2025, which commences tomorrow, according to Commissioner General of Examinations Amit Jayasundara.
Addressing a special press conference today, he stated that the candidates include 398,182 school candidates and 75,968 private candidates, with 3,663 examination centers established across the country, including special centers in Ratmalana, Tangalle, Matara, Chilaw, and Chennai Nafil Special Schools.
Additionally, the Department of Examinations has made special arrangements for candidates under rehabilitation, providing exam centers in Colombo Magazine Prison, Watareka Suneetha College, and Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama to ensure every student has access to the examination.
Strict Guidelines for Candidates
The Commissioner General of Examinations urged all candidates to arrive early at their respective exam centers and bring only essential materials such as pens, pencils, and an identity card. Any violation of examination rules could lead to serious consequences, including a five-year ban from sitting for exams.
Prohibited items include:
- Mobile phones
- Smartwatches
- Communication devices
- Notes or any unauthorized materials
Candidates are required to bring a valid identification document, such as a National Identity Card, passport, or driver’s license. If a candidate lacks proper identification, they must inform the exam hall invigilators for further instructions.
Exam Timings and Instructions
- Morning sessions start at 8:30 AM, and afternoon sessions at 1:00 PM, except on Fridays, when exams begin at 2:00 PM.
- Candidates must verify their exam admission Card for accuracy and ensure their signature is validated by the school principal (for school candidates) or an authorized official (for private candidates).
- The Department of Examinations remains open today to assist candidates with last-minute corrections on their admission Card.
Final Appeal to Candidates
Commissioner General Amit Jayasundara reiterated that strict examination rules would be enforced to maintain the integrity of the exam. He urged students to thoroughly prepare, be punctual, and adhere to the exam regulations to avoid any disqualifications.
