The Guidance and Counselling Unit of the National Institute of Education (NIE) has announced the commencement of applications for the Diploma in School Career Guidance (2026/2027). This program is recognized at SLQF Level III and NVQ Level 5.
The course aims to equip educators and professionals with specialized skills to guide students through their career pathways.
Program Details and Structure
The diploma is a one-year, part-time weekend course consisting of 31 study credits. It will be delivered through a blended learning model:
- 60% Online sessions.
- 40% Face-to-face sessions.
- Internship: The curriculum includes mandatory practical internship training.
- Medium: The course is offered in both Sinhala and Tamil.
Eligibility and Selection
Prospective students must meet the following criteria to apply:
- Professional Status: Must be a teacher in a government, semi-government, or private school, OR be employed in the field of career guidance in the public or private sector.
- Documentation: Applicants must be able to provide a service certificate.
- Academic Qualifications: Must have passed at least three subjects at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination.
- Age Limit: Applicants must be under 55 years old as of April 10, 2026.
Selection Process: Candidates will be selected for the program following a formal interview.
Financial Information
The fee structure for the 2026/2027 intake is as follows:
- Application Fee: Rs. 500.
- Registration Fee: Rs. 1,000.
- Course Fee: Rs. 50,000 (This can be paid in two equal installments).
