The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has officially announced vacancies for the post of Quazi Judge in several regions across Sri Lanka, according to the government gazette published on March 27, 2026.
Applications are invited from eligible individuals to fill these positions under the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (Chapter 115).
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the role, applicants must meet the following stringent requirements:
- Gender & Religion: Must be a Muslim male.
- Marital Status: Must be married.
- Age: Must be over 40 years of age.
- Professional/Educational Background: Applicants must be one of the following:
- A graduate of a recognized university.
- A Maulavi holding a certificate from an institute recognized by the Ministry of Religious and Cultural Affairs.
- A holder of the Al-Alim certificate issued by the Department of Education.
- An Attorney-at-Law or holder of equivalent professional qualifications.
- A retired government staff-grade officer.
- Current Employment: Individuals currently employed in the public service are not eligible to apply.
- Personal Attributes: Applicants must possess a good character, physical fitness, and a profound knowledge of Islamic Law and the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act.
Terms of Appointment
Selected candidates will be appointed for a specific period as defined in their letter of appointment. It is a legal requirement for a Quazi to reside permanently within the area for which they are appointed.
The position offers a monthly allowance of Rs. 7,500/-, with an additional payment of up to Rs. 6,250/- provided for clerical services, stationery, and postal expenses.

- Deadline: Applications must be received on or before April 17, 2026.

- Marking: The top left corner of the envelope should be clearly marked with the word “Quazi”.
