Eligibility Criteria
1. Educational Qualifications
- G.C.E. (O/L): Must pass 06 subjects in one sitting with Credit passes (C) for Mathematics, Science, Sinhala/Tamil, and English.
- G.C.E. (A/L): Must pass 03 subjects in one sitting (excluding General Common Test).
2. Physical Requirements
- Age: Between 18 and 25 years as of the closing date. (Maximum age is 28 for those already in the Police Service) .
- Height: Minimum 5 feet 6 inches (167.64 cm).
- Chest: Minimum 32 inches (unexpanded).
- Vision: Minimum 6/12 in each eye without glasses or contact lenses. If one eye is 6/6, the other must be at least 6/18.
3. Other Requirements
- Marital Status: Must be unmarried (Divorcees, widows, or those with children are ineligible).
- Character: Must possess an unblemished character; neither the applicant nor close relatives should have been convicted of a criminal offense.
Salary and Benefits
The initial basic salary is Rs. 55,410 (as per RS 03-2025). Including allowances, a new recruit can expect the following monthly breakdown:

Selection Process
- Preliminary Interview: Verification of basic qualifications, height, and age.
- Endurance Test: Includes a 1000m run, Chin-ups, Push-ups, Sit-ups, and a memory test (Kim’s Game).
- Written Examination: Two papers: Comprehension/Language Ability and General Knowledge/Intelligence Test.
- Selection Interview: Evaluation of extra-curricular activities, leadership, and professional qualifications.
- Medical & Background Check: Final verification of physical/mental fitness and character history.
