Agrarian Development Officer (Grade II) 2026 – Department of Agrarian Development

The Department of Agrarian Development has officially invited applications for the Limited Competitive Examination for recruitment to Grade II of the Agrarian Development Officer position.

Managed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, this examination is scheduled to be held in September 2026 in Colombo.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka with an excellent character and be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of the island. The recruitment is open to internal candidates meeting either of the following qualifications:

• Category 1: Officers confirmed in a departmental post within the Department of Agrarian Development, holding a degree recognized by the UGC and having completed 05 years of satisfactory service.
• Category 2: Agriculture Research & Production Assistants or Agrarian Service Centre Management Assistants who are confirmed and have completed 05 years of satisfactory service in Grade II.
  • Must have passed G.C.E. (O/L) in 06 subjects (with credits in Language, Math, and two others) and passed at least one G.C.E. (A/L) subject.

Examination Structure

The competitive examination consists of two papers, available in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums:

• Aptitude Test: Focuses on logical reasoning, analytical skills, and decision-making through multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
• Subject Knowledge: Tests knowledge of the department’s functions and the Agrarian Development Act No. 46 of 2000 (including the 2011 amendment).

Important Instructions for Applicants

• Admission Cards: These will be issued online only. Candidates must have their signature on the admission card certified by their Head of Institute.
• Identity Verification: Only a valid National Identity Card (NIC), Passport, or Driving License will be accepted for identification at the exam hall.
• Salary Scale: The position carries the salary scale MN-05-2025 (Rs. 58,660 – 110,570) as per Public Administration Circular 10/2025.
