President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced the recruitment of 30,000 young individuals into the public service, with funds already allocated to support this initiative. Speaking at a public meeting in Buttala ahead of the local government elections, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities for the youth.
“We are recruiting 30,000 new young people with talent and ability. Now the money has been allocated. I have seen that many advertisements are being published in newspapers. We will provide jobs for those who apply,” President Dissanayake stated.
Expansion of Welfare Support
In addition to job creation, the President addressed efforts to enhance welfare support for underprivileged communities. He pointed out that some individuals eligible for ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits had not yet received them. “There is a group that should be receiving ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits but are not. We have invited applications, and now, through selection boards, we are working to provide new welfare benefits to 400,000 families by June,” he explained.
Furthermore, the President acknowledged the plight of approximately 800,000 people who have not received any welfare assistance. To address this, he announced the launch of a special food relief program under which food packs valued at Rs. 5,000 will be made available for Rs. 2,500 through Sathosa outlets.
Addressing Financial Disparities in the Public Sector
President Dissanayake also noted existing disparities in financial assistance within the public sector. While some employees have received salary increases and pension adjustments, a significant portion of the population continues to struggle without such benefits. He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing these inequalities and ensuring broader financial support for all citizens.
