The Department of Forest Conservation, under the Ministry of Environment, has announced an open competitive examination for the recruitment of Beat Forest Officers. Applications are now being called from qualified Sri Lankan citizens, with the examination scheduled to be held by March 14, 2025.

Salary and Service Conditions:
The selected candidates will be appointed to permanent and pensionable posts under the MN-1-2016 salary scale, starting at Rs. 27,140 and progressing to Rs. 45,540 based on increments. The appointment will include a three-year probation period, and the officers will be required to work in challenging forested areas across the island. Their duties will include monitoring forest offenses, apprehending offenders, and assisting in legal activities related to forest conservation.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age Limit: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age by April 14, 2025.
- Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have passed the General Certificate of Education (O/L) with credit passes in four subjects, including Sinhala, Tamil, or English Language, Mathematics, and Science, in one sitting. Additionally, they must have passed at least one subject at the GCE Advanced Level (A/L), excluding the Common Test.
- Physical Qualifications: Male applicants must meet a minimum height requirement of 5 feet 2 inches and a chest measurement of 32 inches. All applicants must be physically and mentally fit to work in forested areas.
Examination Structure:
The recruitment process will consist of a written examination and a structured interview. The written exam will include two papers:
- Intelligence Test: A one-hour paper with 100 marks, assessing logical thinking, analytical competence, and decision-making skills.
- Technical Paper: A two-hour paper with 100 marks, covering topics such as climate impact on forests, environmental conditions, traditional and modern agricultural practices, and knowledge of the Ministry of Environment and Forest Conservation.
Candidates must score a minimum of 40% in each paper to qualify for the interview. The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English media, and candidates cannot change their chosen medium after application.

Applications must be submitted online through the Department of Examinations website (www.doenets.lk) starting from March 14, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. The application fee is Rs. 600, payable via bank credit/debit cards, online banking, or at any Bank of Ceylon branch. Applicants must ensure that all required documents, including birth certificates, educational certificates, and character certificates, are ready for submission if requested.
Examination Centers:
The examination will be held in various towns across Sri Lanka, including Colombo, Kotte, Nugegoda, Maharagama, and others. Candidates must indicate their preferred examination centers during the application process. Admission cards will be issued online, and candidates must present valid identification (National Identity Card, Passport, or Driving License) on the examination day.
Important Notes:
- Only male applicants are eligible for this post.
- Applicants already in government service must submit a certified copy of their application and a service letter from their institution.
- The final selection will be based on the combined marks from the written examination and the structured interview.
