The Guidance and Counselling Unit of the National Institute of Education (NIE) has officially invited applications for its Diploma in Counselling (SLQF Level 03) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
This one-year, part-time program is designed for professionals seeking to enhance their psychological support skills. The course will be conducted in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums.
Course Structure and Delivery
The diploma consists of 31 study workloads and utilizes a blended learning model:
- 60% Online Sessions
- 40% Face-to-Face Sessions
- Internship: The program includes a mandatory practical training component.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following professional requirements:
- Teachers in government, semi-government, or private schools.
- Individuals currently employed or interested in the field of counselling in the public or private sector (service certificate required).
- Pre-school teachers who have passed the G.C.E. (A/L) examination (service certificate required).
Age Limit: Applicants must be under 55 years of age as of April 10, 2026.

The total cost for the program is structured as follows:
- Application Fee: Rs. 500
- Registration Fee: Rs. 1,000
- Course Fee: Rs. 40,000 (Payable in two equal installments)
